Incorporated in 2022, Fleurieu Hickory Golfers
is South Australia's premier hickory golfing society. The aims of the society
are to: promote golf played with hickory-shafted clubs; raise awareness
of South Australia’s rich golfing heritage; encourage antique golf club
restoration and preservation; and establish and maintain guidelines for
hickory golf competitions in South Australia
Having been settled predominently by Scots in the 1830s, the region
has a rich golfing heritage and a variety of great courses (see
here).
Situated about an hour’s drive south of Adelaide, Fleurieu Peninsula
offers a wide variety of food, wine and arts experiences and is an ideal
locale for a broad range of outdoor activities. The area’s Mediterranean-style
climate provides an ideal habitat for wildlife and flora and its pristine
coastal environment is home to numerous native mammals, abundant bird species
and a plethora of sea-life such as dolphins, sea lions, seals and whales.
Boasting a number of excellent wineries of its own, Fleurieu Peninsula
adjoins the world renowned McLaren Vale wine region. The Peninsula also
provides a gateway to Kangaroo Island, a playground of natural wonders
and incomparable beauty.
